We’ve updated our Where We’ll Be page with the list of conventions at which we plan to have a presence for the next few months. Coming up next: ArmadilloCon in Austin TX on August 27-29. If you pre-supported the San Jose in 2011 Westercon bid, you are entitled to a $15 discount off an attending membership. That discount expires on August 1, 2010. Memberships are currently $65, but only $50 for pre-supporters through the end of July 2010. We urge all of our pre-supporting members to redeem their discounts now and buy an attending membership to Westercon 64 for only $50. Register online on our membership registration page.
If you believe you used your pre-supporter discount and should already have an attending membership, check your membership status and if you still have a question after that, write to our Registration Team.
Westercon 64 Progress Report 1 is now available for download from our Publications page. We mailed copies of PR1 this week to all members (or handed them out in person) except those who opted out of receiving paper publications. If you would like to opt-out of receiving paper publications, write to our Registration department (see contacts on the Committee List).
Westercon 64 had a phenomenal response at BayCon. Our fan table was always busy. Fan Guest of Honor Mike Wilmoth engaged fans in our party room with intelligent and lively conversation, which kept our party hopping. We sold dozens of memberships and upgrades, as well as our spiffy new t-shirt designed by our Artist Guests of Honor, Phil and Kaja Foglio.
It was also a very good con for recruiting and we were able to fill a number of important positions. We’re always looking for more volunteers to join the staff list.
Our next stop is Westercon 63 and we look forward to seeing everyone there.
Cheyenne Wright, colorist for Westercon 64 Guests of Honor Phil and Kaja Foglio’s Girl Genius series, was recently released from what Kaja described as “an alarming stay in the hospital.” As he was uninsured, the Foglios are running a fundraiser to help pay the medical bills. If you are interested in helping, you can donate money in return for one of a number of wonderful Girl Genius desktop wallpapers on the Girl Genius web site.

Besides our fan table, we’re also one of the sponsors of Match Game SF, the fannish game show where you fill in the ____, on Friday evening of Norwescon.

It’s a busy convention weekend (February 26-28) coming up in Southern California, and Westercon 64 will be there! Come meet the Chair of Westercon 64 at Condor XVII in San Diego or the Treasurer at Gallifrey 21 in Los Angeles. We will be staffing fan tables at both conventions and will be available to sell memberships and answer questions.
Westercon 64’s co-Artist Guest of Honor Phil Foglio is the subject of an interview posted today in which he talks about the MythAdventures comics (now being re-released online and in new collections), and how he and Kaja Foglio work together on Girl Genius.
We’ve added a Meet Us page listing those conventions where representatives of Westercon 64 plan to staff informational “fan tables.” You can buy memberships and also talk to us about our plans for Westercon. Our current plans for 2010 include Norwescon, BayCon, Westercon 63, and Loscon. We will update our Meet Us page as we add more appearances.
