Our discounted room block expired November 20. See details and other possible nearby hotels below.

SMOFCon 28 will be at the historic Sainte Claire Hotel in downtown San José, California. Those who attended ConJosé in 2002 will remember this hotel as the Hyatt Sainte Claire. The hotel is now part of Larkspur Hotels Collection.

Room rates start at $89/night (plus $14.53/night taxes and fees for a total of $103.53/night after taxes) for both one and two-bed rooms. Although our reduced-rate room block has expired, regular rooms in the Sainte Claire may still be available starting from around $144, with discounts available such as AAA. Other hotels are nearby, including across the street from the Sainte Claire.

As a big fan of historic hotels (and ghost folklore), I thought I’d pass on a little more info on the Sainte Claire. It is a registered historic hotel.

Which also includes the following link (see the last paragraph of the “Unrequited Love” section for the story of the Sainte Claire):

For more up-to-date reports, you can also see my review:

I hope everyone enjoys staying there as much as I did. I may do it again.

    What’s the parking situation?

  • Kevin

Hotel guests receive complimentary valet parking. The hotel does not have its own parking structure or lot other than the valet parking. There are many parking lots and structures in the downtown San Jose area, but none of them are free. See the Downtown San Jose Parking web site for a map and details of the charges per lot or structure.

As of right now, trying to book via the online form gets me the info that no rooms are available! What’s up? (Now is 4:15pm 11/17/10)

    MKK:

I have passed this on to the hotel liaison (hotel@smofcon28.org) to see if there’s any way to get any more rooms into our block. As we’re right up against the booking deadline, its possible that there are simply no more rooms available at all. However, you may also want to try calling the hotel directly rather than booking online, as it has been the case in the past that the hotel has been able to book rooms by telephone even when the web form says “full.”

Yup. Called the hotel direct & booked with no problem. Though they did tell me the valet parking was $21/night and above you say it’s complimentary…

I have passed this along to the Hotel liaison as well, and he’ll see what he can do to clear things up.

Also, the hotel has made more rooms available in the online system as of this afternoon, although this of course is subject to change at any time, especially after the room block expires this Friday.

    Nolly,

There is no on-site parking, but the Sainte Claire does have valet parking. I believe the most reasonable parking is the structure above the Camera 3 cinemas at 2nd & San Carlos. I was charged $3 for the whole day when I went to Sorcerercon last weekend.

A word of warning, pay very close attention to any parking signs downtown and religiously obey them. Meter people are very vigilant in that vicinity.
