SFSFC ISSUES GRANTS

At their March 14, 2004 Board of Directors Meeting, San Francisco Science Fiction Conventions, Inc., issued several grants to various groups and individuals for development and furtherance of science fiction and fantasy activities.

SFSFC issued the following grants:

Clarion Writers’ Workshop: $1000 matching grant to help fund 2004 Workshop. Details of this grant were in SFSFC Press Release 2004-1, released March 31, 2004. For more information about Clarion, see <http://www.msu.edu/~clarion/>.

Interaction, 2005 World Science Fiction Convention: $2000 to purchase trophy rockets for the 2005 Hugo Award trophies. The Hugo Award trophy consists of a rocket shape of standard design on a base designed by the convention committee. For more information about Interaction, see <http://www.interaction.worldcon.org.uk/>.

Vegas Science Fiction Association: $750 to VegaCon I to fund the logistics costs of the convention’s Art Show, including rental, transportation, and set-up of art show display flats. For more information about VegaCon, see <http://www.vegacon.org/>.

Ad Hoc Worldcon Promotional Committee: $500 to fund portions of a promotional program to raise overall awareness of the World Science Fiction Convention (as opposed to the individual Worldcons, which tend to promote themselves as stand-alone events). For more information, contact Grant Kruger at SciFiSA@aol.com.

Comic Book Legal Defense Fund: $500 for general operating purposes. For more information, see <http://www.cbldf.org/>.

SFSFC Inc. was the parent non-profit corporation of ConJose, the 2002 Worldcon, and of ConFrancisco, the 1993 Worldcon. Most of the these grants were funded from ConJose surplus funds. As required by World Science Fiction Society rules, SFSFC will submit an accounting of ConJose finances, including disposition of surplus funds, to the 2004 WSFS Business Meeting.
