ConStruction 2007 Postponed Until November
Due to numerous scheduling conflicts, the Bay Area ConStruction convention-running conference has been postponed to November 10-11, 2007.
ConStruction is a conference about organizing science fiction, fantasy, horror, anime, and related conventions with a focus on Northern California and the San Francisco Bay Area. The conference was originally planned for the weekend of July 21-22, but will now be November 10-11. It will be held at the Holiday Inn San Jose on North First Street. The event will include a “get acquainted” social on the evening of November 9 for which conference membership is not required.
Programming at ConStruction will consist of panel and round table discussions. Topics include convention operations; staffing; program building and managing guest expectations; contracts; budgeting; customer relations and communication. Saturday evening, members will play the convention-planning simulation game “If I Ran the Z/o/o/…Con.”
Membership in ConStruction, including Sunday Brunch, is $25 through October 31, 2007 and will be $35 at the door. Checks should be made payable to “SFSFC” and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover) are accepted. Send payment or credit card information to ConStruction, c/o SFSFC, PO Box 61363, Sunnyvale CA 94088-1363. A membership form is available on the convention’s web site. An online membership sales form is under construction.
ConStruction kicks off at 8 PM on Friday, November 9, when SFSFC, sponsor of the convention, hosts a Dessert Social for Bay Area convention-runners. SFSFC invites anyone with an interest in local convention-running to attend the social event on Friday night. Membership in ConStruction is not required to attend Friday’s nights Dessert Social. Saturday is the convention’s seminar day, with panels throughout the day. Sunday morning, the San Jose Convention & Visitors Bureau (“CVB”) will host a brunch for ConStruction members and present an overview of convention running resources available through the CVB. The SFSFC Board of Directors will hold their quarterly meeting immediately following ConStruction. The meeting is open to the public.
SFSFC was the parent non-profit corporation of ConJosé, the 2002 World Science Fiction Convention, and ConFrancisco, the 1993 Worldcon.
