Kirsten M. Berry is the recipient of the 2009 SFSFC SMOFCon Scholarship. She will receive a $500 grant to attend SMOFCon 27, the annual convention about running SF genre conventions, which this year will be in Austin TX over the weekend of December 4-6. See the full announcement for details.

The deadline for applying for this year’s SMOFCon Scholarship has now passed. The scholarship committee is evaluating applications and expects to make a decision and contact all applicants during the first week of November. We thank everyone who applied for their interest.

SFSFC has won the bid to host the 2011 West Coast Science Fantasy Conference (Westercon 64) at the Fairmont Hotel, San Jose, California. Guests of honor are writer Patricia A. McKillip, artists Phil & Kaja Foglio, and fan Mike Willmoth. The convention will be July 1-4, 2011. Memberships are initially $45 with discounts for those who pre-supported the San Jose in 2011 Westercon bid and/or voted in the 2011 Westercon site selection. SFSFC has filed formal bidding papers with Westercon 62 (Tempe AZ, 2009) for our bid to host Westercon 64 in 2011 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose. More details are in the press release issued yesterday and on the Westercon San Jose in 2011 web site.

The SFSFC Board of Directors will meet on March 28 and July 11, 2009, and at a date in November depending on the schedule for ConStruction 2009. Details have been posted to the Meetings Page. Note that meeting dates and locations are subject to change.

SFSFC announced today that the dates of the 2009 World Fantasy Convention have changed to October 29-November 1, 2009, rather than the following weekend as originally announced. Details of the announcement are in the press release and on the newly redesigned 2009 World Fantasy Convention website.
